2019-20 NFL (Week 5)

Games I saw some of:
Rams 29-30 Seahawks
Dang, man, Jared Goff is the most maddening QB in the league at the moment. On the successful drives he looks good--good!  Not okay, not 'good enough', but legit good. But then on the unsuccessful drives, he looks terrible! Flat out terrible--holding the ball too long, rolling out into a sack, bad reads, missing receivers by ten yards--terrible! That said, he did his job in this game, got his squad in position to win and the PK missed his shot. I still kinda think the Rams at their best is better than the Seahawks and by the end of the year they've still got a shot at making a run; the Seahawks have been living on Russell Wilson's magic for years now so its hard to tell how good they actually are...well, I guess they're good.

Cards 26-23 Bengals
The Bengals are not a good team, the Cards aren't either but they play hard and they've got a spunky QB that doesn't know his limitations. I don't see either of these teams making a run but both might be good enough to play spoiler down the line.

Ravens 26-23 (OT) Steelers
The Steelers defense is still okay--not classic Steelers, but not bad--but the offense is just sludgy, so much so that I wouldn't be surprised to see it get better moving to the 3rd string QB. The Ravens, on the other hand, ought to be ready to take off...so why haven't they? The Ravens had this game won and let the Steelers back in and then got kinda lucky to force the necessary turnover to seal it. Not an impressive performance from the Ravens and I don't know what to make of the Steelers.

Packers 34-24 Cowboys
The Packers played their best game of the season here and still managed to let the Cowboys get hot late to make a game of it. This game was over early and I'm not sure why the Cowboys offense kept sputtering, they moved the ball pretty well but then would just suddenly start spinning their wheels. Last week against the Saints, Amari Cooper disappeared but in this game he was doing whatever he wanted, so why didn't he score more TDs? The Cowboys are almost there, I still think they're gonna improve. The Packers finally played their best match, we'll see if they can keep it going.

Colts 19-13 Chiefs
That Chiefs D is really not good, the Colts ran all over them and gave plenty of room for Brissett to make plays. But here it was Mahomes' inability to get anything going that was eye-opening. Last week against the Lions the Chiefs offense wasn't so good and they still scored 30 points, so why couldn't they get going against the Colts? I dunno. The Colts offense is well-designed and seems very capable of holding the ball, moving the ball and finishing with regularity, I think they're gonna emerge throughout the season. The Chiefs are up and down but should still be in the mix at the end of the year.

Games I saw none of:
Jags 27-34 Panthers
Backup QBs going at it. Once the Panthers turned their offense over to McCaffrey, it finally figured out what its doing and looks to hang around in their sloppy division for a while. The Jags...I dunno...decent D, good looking QB, might be okay, I dunno.

Falcons 32-53 Texans
Wow, the Falcons suck. They really shouldn't be they do. The Texans are good when Deshaun Watson is good, all you need to know. Give Watson time and they should win games.

Bucs 24-31 Saints
Teddy Bridgewater is settling in and a division game is always a good time to get it going. The Bucs...I dunno, man...they're the Bucs, but they seem a little better than usual...but are they really?

Vikings 28-10 Giants
Yeah, that sounds about right. The Vikings are frustrating but against a sloppy squad, they look like champions. Hard to tell how good they really are. The Giants are scuffling but they're playing hard and they will score them a few W's throughout the season.

Bears 21-24 Raiders
The Bears should win games like this, right? Run the ball, attack the QB, what else do they really need to do? The Raiders are against the wall, they've got nothing better to do than play hard and that'll get them a few wins.

Jets 6-31 Eagles
Yeah, that's about right. The Jets suck. The Eagles beat up on bad teams, flounder against good teams. Still time for the Eagles to get it together and be really good, but they're not there yet.

Bills 14-7 Titans
As a lifelong Bills fan, I'm cautiously optimistic (and then I remember the Pats exist and that transfers to 'next year') and I'm not yet sold on Josh Allen but so far so good (and I'm fully sold on that defense). The Titans are an up and down team, this was not one of the ups.

Pats 33-7 Redskins
Took the Pats a while to get going but once they did, no problem. I think the Redskins might be the worst team in the league, they'll test that theory in Miami next week.

Broncos 20-13 Chargers
Division games, man, you never know. Feels like the Chargers should've taken this but they're a sloppy team. The Broncos have been disappointing so far, are they ready to get going now?

Browns 3-31 Niners
Feels like the Browns should've scored a little more than this but I'm not too surprised by this result. The Niners are the Browns of the West except they weren't poisoned by absurd off-season expectations. Not completely sold on the Niners yet and not completely sold on the Browns being bad yet (that division should give them so W's).
