Nuggets get SF Julius Randle and SG Corey Brewer; Lakers get PF Kenneth Faried
The Lakers like stars and Faried seems to think he is one. Down low next to Brook Lopez would be a good fit for him to pile up rebounds and blocked shots. He's got one more year on his deal giving the Laker just enough veteran presence banked for next year.
Randle is in the final year of his rookie deal, the Nuggets get one last look at him, they can bring him back if they like what they see, let him go if they don't. If the Nuggets are in the hunt for the playoffs, they keep Brewer for scoring off the bench with him; if not, they cut him loose and let him find a playoff bench spot for himself. Either way, he's not back next year.
The Lakers don't really need Brewer, he's depth for a good team but just gets in the way of the youth development for now; and they likely don't want Randle back, this turns him into an asset. Faried is a reliable rebounder down low, a bit one-dimensional but the Lakers are developing plenty of wing scoring these days and his contract is not onerous. The Nuggets might like Randle (almost certainly more than Faried) but they have no commitment going forward and they may or may not have need for Brewer but with both players, they're free to move on next summer.
