(5) Southern Cal 27-30 (16) Washington State
USC has not exactly been dominant this season, that top 5 ranking never quite looked right on them and going to middle-of-nowhere Washington was too much for them to take. Washington State has piled up points with little effort so far and this is a legit big win for this team. With Stanford, Cal, Oregon and UCLA all looking wonky, that Washington-Washington St matchup is looking like the one that will decide the Pac. Not good for USC, very good for Washington State.
(24) Mississippi State 10-49 (13) Auburn
Auburn did what they needed to do to defuse what might've been a tense conference battle, all building up to Alabama for the Tigers. Mississippi State is trapped in the SEC West.
(2) Clemson 31-17 (12) Virginia Tech
Tech just couldn't get any offense going against Clemson, though they were able to (kinda) slow down the Tiger attack; thought they did a pretty good job to just keep it close and hang around. I was pretty with Tech's tenacity, I really liked that QB, liked the way the hung together in the face of an overwhelming opponent. Tech looks to be rebuilding in the right way, could still make some noise this year. Clemson still looking like the team to beat. Good win for Clemson.
Top 25
Handled their business
(1) Alabama, (2) Clemson, (4) Penn State, (6) Washington, (7) Georgia, (10) Wisconsin, (11) Ohio State, (13) Auburn, (14) Miami, (15) Oklahoma State, (17) Louisville, (18) South Florida, (19) San Diego State, (21) Florida, (22) Notre Dame
Not so good
(5) Southern Cal. They'd be getting by so far but that just-enough play wasn't good enough this week.
(24) Mississippi State. Not bad but not good enough in the SEC.
(25) LSU. Oooohhhh, think we've seen the last of LSU this year.
Bad beat
(12) Virginia Tech. Clemson is tough but this was Tech's opportunity to get ahead and they weren't able to capitalize. Still an impressive showing against a powerhouse squad.
Next week's interesting games:
(17) Louisville @ (24) North Carolina State
(23) West Virginia @ (8) TCU
